Insurance carriers are also making these requirements a condition of renewal; several major California insurers have dropped VHFHSZ policies entirely without proof of compliance. Roof-mounted sprinkler defense is an additional layer for homes on the highest-risk lots — canyon rims, ridgelines, homes with heavy Eucalyptus or Manzanita adjacency, and structures where the standard Class A + ember-resistant package still leaves gaps.
